Minutes of the Corvette Super Sports Regular Meeting
February 3, 2004
Meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m.
President Greg Glodery introduced the Board of Directors (BOD) and the new Officers for 2004. He determined that a quorum was present before continuing with the meeting.
The meeting minutes were accepted as submitted in December. Joe Orrico made a motion to accept and Hal Oberman second the motion.
Greg gave the highlights of the Board of Directors Meeting held on January 20th.
1. The Board approved the purchase of a Òstate of the artÓ adding machine with tape for our Treasurer, Ann Meeuwenberg. The club members concurred with the decision.
2. Clean car contest will resume during daylight savings time when visibility is not an issue.
3. New membership applicants were approved by the Board and they were Cindy Ripley, Joe and Joyce Foust. Congratulations to our new members!
4. Ann Meeuwenberg, Treasurer gave the treasurerÕs report.
5. Gary StillwellÕs company made a large contribution to our charities last year. This year we would like to offer his employees an opportunity to decide on a Catholic organization or school in their community to receive some of the donated funds.
6. We had another successful CSS car show last year and it was approved by the BOD to have another one this year as well as a second show at Ostroms featuring Chevrolets & Corvettes. Marietta Darke spoke to Ted about a future event at their new showroom. The parking lot is not finished yet and Ted asked that we give them a month or two. Perhaps, we can do a morning cruise-in, provide lunch, charge $1 admission (as extra revenue) and use the Ostrom name. We will need volunteers to chair this event.
7. The BOD also discussed sponsoring a golf tournament. We can have the organization do everything for us or we can do the work ourselves and reap the benefits. We need 144 golfers or 36 foursomes and for a dayÕs work we can earn as much as $3,000 - $5,000 for this event. For a weekend a round of golf would cost $87 per person and on a weekday $78 and this includes dinner. Perhaps, Ostrom Chevrolet can insure or provide a Corvette as a prize for the Òhole in one.Ó Any volunteers to chair this event?
8. The BOD also agreed to resurrect a phone committee. Donna Stewart to chair and she will need a new, updated membership list. This committee will notify members of club events, meeting places and time, etc. Ken Vasilik has created a club member data sheet and will need to have every member fill one out. This will verify birthdays, wedding and club anniversaries, addresses, emails, etc. and also how you want to be notified or reminded of unannounced club functions. Ann Meeuweenberg reminded the members to notify the NCCC if you have recently moved.
9. We also discussed the need to create more entertainment for all members including the waxers vs. racers so that one group can crossover and try something new. Perhaps one way to achieve this blend would be the auto cross. Bill Darke shared some information regarding the California Sports Car Club where we can learn more about auto crossing. They have a great website, www.solo2.com where you can get the 2004 event schedule. He mentioned the LadiesÕ School Event coming up on March 27 at Hollywood Park; this class usually fills up as soon as it is posted so if interested sign up right away. For all you men, there is a School Event on October 16 & 17. Solo2 school events cost approximately $90 for 2 days. Greg Glodery suggested setting up cones at these events to give you a hands-on perspective. Or as Bill Darke suggested, ride along with the racersÑitÕs fun, free and they have loaner helmets available.
Remember to check our CSS website for links into other informational sites per Mike Cooper.
10. Ellis Chee attended the first NCCC meeting of the year on January 31. Awards were presented and our car club came in third. This award as well as individual awards were presented because of our participation in a NCCC-sanctioned event and/or racing participation. Ed Norris received a medallion from GM for 5th place and Bill Darke placed 6th. They will also be receiving a jacket, too. Congratulations to all. Ellis presented 4 extra medallions to be used in our club raffles and as golf tournament prizes.
We also had a drawing for a set of 18Ó Kumho Tires for nine participants and the winner was none other than our Mike Cooper. Way to go!
11. New guests at our meeting were introduced by Donna Stewart and they were as follows: Jill Tezou/Diamond Bar and Murray Hale/Huntington Beach. Welcome!
12. Anniversary pins were awarded to Katie and Ron Kennedy for 10-years and Ellis Chee for 15-years with CSS. Well done!
13. Ann Meeuwenberg shared a note from Jay and Marcia Lynch thanking the club for the beautiful plant sent to them in the passing of JayÕs mother.
14. Ken Vasilik read upcoming events. 1) Sweetheart Rallye, 2/14, Meet @ Vista Verde Center, call Linda or John Tully 310-378-4062; 2) Temecula Rod Run, 2/28, call Donna Stewart 714-525-0684; 3) Mardi Gras 12th Annual GamblerÕs Poker Run in Laughlin, NV, 3/12-14, call Jerry and Lorie Berger 661-589-6085; 4) Yanks-Motorsports-The Ontario Mills, 4/17 (Meet at Linda and Ed NorrisÕ for a day of fun for the men and shopping for the women, RSVP to Linda 909-628-4202 or Vicki 909-627-6767; 5) 17th Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show, 4/24 (forms available at the meeting).
Donna Stewart declared the February 28 Temecula event as a club event. They will meet at KenoÕs in Yorba Linda at 8:30 a.m. and depart sharply at 9:00 a.m. Bring a lunch.
Ken also apologized about the birthdays and anniversaries, he is still collecting data but mentioned a few for February (myself, Ken, Howard, Ron, Danny (big 50)). Happy Birthday to everyone and to those I missed!!
15. After a brief intermission, Greg Glodery gave us a 15-minute informative discussion about safe driving at high speeds, hand position, evasive maneuvering, air bags, etc.
16. Ron Kennedy has a creative idea for new photo badges with magnetic fasteners. The badges are fade resistant and will consist of your name, year of car, club name and a photo of your vette. Sheets are available at the club meeting. Greg Glodery mentioned that it looked pretty good.
17. The free dinner draw winner was Linda Schaeffer. Hal Oberman won the $59 50/50 raffle as well as two other raffles (one was the GM medallion). Way to go Hal! Other winners were Danny Simmerman, John Rutecki, Marcia Lynch, Linda Soria, Tom Cuccio and Hazel Beidleman. Congratulations to all!
18. Doug Meeuwenberg mentioned that Ostrom can procure tires for Z06/C5. Just call Carl in Parts and they will mount and balance the tires with savings to you.
There was no other new business and motion to adjourn was made by Tom Cuccio and Joe Orrico second the motion.
Respectively submitted,
Esther McDaniel
