Corvette Super Sports Ð General Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, July 6, 2004

Proceedings

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 p.m. by President Greg Glodery.  After it was determined that a quorum was present the general meeting continued.

The general meeting minutes were accepted as submitted in June but I would like to make a correction in regards to CSS charities.  Per Marietta Darke, CSS no longer has Kids Sake as a charity.  Joe Orrico made a motion to accept the minutes and Mike Cooper seconded the motion.

Old Business

1.                   CSS Club Car Show.  Chairman Steve McDaniel gave an update as follows:

a.       The ElkÕs Lodge will remind the Seven-up employees to not park on their lot on the day of the event.

b.      We need to recruit additional parking lot attendants to provide relief to those in very hot weather.

c.       Ron Kennedy has his own electrical power but will park in the same spot as last year to hook up to the Lodge, just in case.  Ron also requested 3x5 cards with the trophy categories, sponsorsÕ names, etc.  His request was forwarded to Doug Meeuwenberg.  The problem is Ann Meeuwenberg must sell 16 more trophiesÑso please help!

d.      Marietta Darke still needs assistance from club members to solicit additional raffle prizes.

e.       Steve Towers will make signs for ÒNo Alcohol in the Parking LotÓ and ÒRestroomÓ.  Per Doug Meeuwenberg, no signs are needed for food prices since a dry erase board will be made available for the food service team.

f.        Sub-chairs please attend a Ôget-togetherÕ after the Board meeting on Tuesday, July 20th to fine tune and make this our best event ever!

2.      CSS Golf Tournament.  Per Greg GloderyÕs suggestion, we will delay the golf tournament a couple of months since it is too close to the annual car show and may cause conflicts with obtaining raffle prizes, etc.  Besides, we need NCCCÕs blessing to sanction this event in order to receive credit for driving 10 miles or more.

3.      Charity Drive.  Marietta DarkeÕs endeavor to get sponsors for our raffle prizes is paying off but she still needs help from the club members.  We only have one more meeting before the event!  Also, as stated in the June newsletter, H.I.S. House needs coffee, Tupperware, zip lock bags, Reynolds wrap or you may view their website at www.hishouseplacentia.org for additional items.  You may bring your donations to the July 20th Board meeting or the regular club meeting in August.

Marietta also received from Cindy Jarvis (CHP) complimentary tickets to the WNBA ÒThe SparksÓ which she will use as a raffle prize for our car show.

On Wednesday, August 25, we are co-sponsoring the John Force Car Show and Marietta needs one or two more volunteers for parking assistance.

4.      NCCC News.  Ellis Chee was not at tonightÕs meeting but at the Board meeting on June 15, he reported there were approximately 1200 people at the Las Vegas 45th Annual NCCC Convention in June 5-11.  There were 14 CSS club members at this event.  We also had quite a few members who placed in the high and low speed events.  Some mentionables were Ed Norton who took 2nd place for low speed and at 108 mph took 1st place for high speed.  Dave and Ilona Alciatore took 1st place at the drags and together they took home six trophies!  There were over 200 cars racing at this event.  What a team!  And, whatÕs this we hear?  CSS won an award for outstanding club at a pool party?  Bob and Irene Franco painted their bodies with our logo!?!  Sounds like a Kodak moment to me.

5.      Detailers.  Greg Glodery mentioned that we should all support those folks who work very hard at polishing and detailing their cars.  The Judges are relentless.  He mentioned that at the Huntington Beach Concours de Elegance, the following club members took home trophies and they were:  Gary Stillwell for his 1973 corvette (1st place), Ron Jobes (3rd place), Mario Soria for his C-4 (1st place) and Phil Villalovos (2nd place).  At Martin Chevrolet ÒThe Vette SetÓ Car Show on June 13, Gary Stillwell took 1st place, Ron Jobes 2nd place, Mario Soria (2nd), and Danny Simmerman (1st).  We also received a club participation award (thanks to the dedicated women of the club, tooÑCindy, Linda, Rose).  At the Glenkirk Church event Gary Stillwell took 1st place and Greg Glodery took 1st place. I also hear that Joe Orrico took 8th and 9th place at the National Autocross and here I thought Joe was the quiet type.

1.                   TreasurerÕs Report Given.  Ann Meeuwenberg gave the TreasurerÕs report.  Thirty trophies in all are needed for the CSS car event and Ann has 16 left to sell before August 21st.  The cost for the trophies is $15 each and your name will appear on the trophies you have sponsored.  Ann also has received two more pre-entry registrations for our car show and that makes eight so far.  Last year we had sixty total registrants and one was a no-show.  We expect more cars this year.

Also, Ann will begin collecting club dues in August in order to make the cut-off date in October.  According to the GovernorÕs Board meeting in Las Vegas, we will need to collect NCCC dues by OctoberÕs meeting.  There will be a $5 increase in dues, therefore, $25 for primary members and $10 for spouses.

2.                   Membership Application.  The Board approved Rick and Lynn MillerÕs membership application.   Greg Glodery also mentioned new members, Pat and Jan Works, who were not at the JuneÕs meeting.  Welcome Rick, Lynn, Pat and Jan!

3.                   Upcoming Events.  Ken Vasilik provided upcoming events which will also be posted on the website as well as flyers provided at the general meeting.  On July 10-11 there is a SCC Autocross; 18th Pomona Swap meet, 20th Board of DirectorsÕ meeting, 24-25 California Auto fest, 25th Main Street America at Seaport Village, just to mention a few.

It was a good meeting and we had a full house.

There was no other business and the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.  Joe Orrico motioned to end the meeting and Mike Cooper seconded the motion.

Addendum

I received an email message from Ellis Chee on the day of our general meeting to pass this along to the club but unfortunately I did not open my email.  So I promised Ellis that I would add this to the July minutes.  Ellis was certain that some of the autocross enthusiasts know Doug Hall.

Here is the message from Rex Wilhoite:

During the Memorial Day weekend SCCA North South Autocross challenge in Hawthorne NV, a member of the Las Vegas Club slid off course and unfortunately ran over a course worker.  The course worker, Doug Hall is a Corvette owner from the San Diego area.  Doug had numerous injuries including broken bones in his legs.  He is recovering but his medical bills are adding up.  Please read the following email:

For those of you not aware Doug Hall, long time SoCal Corvette auto crosser and SCCA member, was injured at a racing event. Doug has been and will continue to be in the hospital for some time. The cost for his care is not entirely covered by insurance. In an effort to help Doug's family Guldstrand Racing Association, a racing club that Doug belongs to, is attempting to raise funds to help the Halls. Kumho Tires has donated a set of Kumho tires, winnerÕs choice of tire model, to be raffled off. All proceeds from the raffle go directly to Doug. 500 tickets will be sold at $5.00 each. You may purchase as many tickets as you like, it is going to a great cause, and you could win a brand new set of tires.

Send your Check or Money Order to: GRA, P.O. Box 8209 Mission Hills, CA 91346-8209. Please make all funds payable to GRA. Please include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope so we may send you your ticket stub. Also include your phone number and email if applicable.

Once the 500th ticket has been sold we will draw the winners name at the next Cal Club Autocross. If not present at the event you will be notified by phone/email/mail we will also post the winners name along with all those that bought tickets at www.solo2.com. You do not need to be present to win.

Thank you for your help...GRA
